"The Art of Accelerated Learning by Selena Watts was a quick and fun read about proven strategies to help people learn faster and going above our self-perceived educational limitations. Watts is an educator but also struggled with the traditional educational system set in place. The one that doesn't allow for individual learning types but everyone must learn the same way. However, this just doesn't work for everyone and it's time that classrooms and education, in general, should change to allow learners to grow within their own learning styles while actively practicing others. The concept is to accept our bodies, minds, and thus our own learning styles as part of us. To accept us for us in our educational endeavors is such a wonderful message. This includes experimenting with different learning styles, being aware of our emotions, taking notice of our learning environment, etc. Reading the book felt similar to a therapy session. One that gave an "Aha!" moment. We tend to think of these learning styles and theories for children and youth but once we become adults, we either forget or don't think the same concepts will follow through. The chapter on speed reading was quick but really helpful. I got a few tips for myself and my students. I think Watts has a friendly, energetic writing style that made reading easy and digestible. The book is a great read for someone in the educational world either teacher, admin, or student. It could also help parents learn more about their own educational upbringing/ frustrations and how to help their own children on their educational journey. Going to keep this one in my tool kit for my future educational endeavors!
