Te la Reo (The current of Language) is a lively course for learning and teaching Maori. It is the first Maori language course to be developed using a full range of modern approaches to language teaching. There are three levels and each level consists of four basic resources - a student textbook, a student workbook, a teacher's guide with an audio cd of the student text oral scripts. Te la Reo is written primarily for secondary school students, but it can be used equally well in senior primary school classes, in tertiary institutions and with adult students. Te Matapuna is the first level of Te la Reo. As you can see, the series title picks up on a theme of water as a symbol for the flow of language. From Te Matapuna, the spring, the course goes to Te Pukaki, the stream, at the second level. The stream merges into the main river at the third level Te Awa Rere.
