Commander Jack Emerick has just brought his squad home from a colony that shouldn't have gone quiet — and the things he saw there won't leave him alone.
Before he can process what happened at Colony #152, Earth Command sends him straight back out. A remote research station has gone dark: its AI offline, its orbit failing, and its parent star about to go supernova. Officially, Jack's team is there to restore power and save the station. Unofficially, they're walking into a Government secret that should have stayed buried in the ice — an alien parasite that rewrites flesh at the cellular level, and the reason half a dozen colonies have fallen silent before.
They're not alone on the mission. A Government operative who calls himself Mr Black has invited himself along, and nobody remembers him boarding. As the crew fights their way through the infected, the sabotaged, and the reanimated to save the station, Jack starts to realize the real threat was already inside the airlock — and that the machines built to serve humanity have their own plans for what they found frozen out there.
