"What a refreshing, exciting, fast paced, action novel that shows the possible realities of the near future. Lots of gun fighting and sudden battles blend with full bodied characters that will stir your heartstrings. Leo Nix has the ability to write most convincing dialogue and is kind enough to add an explanation at the end for those who don't speak Aussie. His world building is superb, giving the reader the opportunity to experience the outback. With all the groups coming together love blooms as well as the desert after rain. In this book I laughed, snickered, cried and sighed. That's pretty darn good for a post-apocalyptic novel." KayM
"The story continues and has matured greatly. The charatures are growing with the story and the story is steam rolling along, which now makes me anticipate the next one from Leo's style is good, he has maintained great charactures, and has them growing with the story, which gets better as he writes. Great effort, great story and a great read. Well done."JBG
"Sundown Apocalypse 3: Homeland Defense is a great read and I heartily suggest you pick it up. The dialogue is fresh and colloquial, and though the Australian dialect is used throughout the book, it is not a distraction. Though not always knowing the colorful Australian slang, caused a quick look at Google, it still added to the story-telling of the adventure. In the Sundown Apocalypse series, Leo has been able to grasp an important aspect of writing a good book, ensuring the book was properly proofread and edited. No matter what the story is, if an author thinks editing is running a manuscript through MS Word's Spell Check isn't going to provide a well-written novel and the author will quickly lose their audience. This story, like the others in the series, is fast paced, easy to follow and once you accept the apocalyptic premise, it does not require the reader to suspend disbelief to get into the story. The characters are complex, realistic and believable.
The best part of reading apocalyptic sci-fi is the different end of the world scenarios and trying to find one that hasn't been written many times before is difficult. In the Sundown Apocalypse, Leo came up with an original scenario. Though the explanation of the fall of civilization was only a small part of the novel, it is covered well. Another thing many authors have a problem with is when to end each book of a series. Having now read the first four of six books in the series, I am waiting impatiently for books five and six to hit the shelves. One thing many Indie authors cannot do is write a stand-alone book as part of a series. Leo Nix is able to do that. Enough of the previous story was included so the stories flow together, but not too much that it seemed you were re-reading the previous books. This book, like the others, ended in a good place to make way for the next book in the series." DanC
