The End On a hill overlooking Brighton very early one morning, the body of a man hangs from a tree. Why did he kill himself? The Beginning A white Irish woman meets a British Asian man at a rave. Within weeks, he has moved in with her. The bit in the middle This is the story of the man, as told by the woman to their children. The children were too young to remember their father, so this is for them. It starts in East London, a place the woman is desperate to leave. Together she and the man move to Brighton to escape the partying - but her drug paranoia travels with her. After a chemical wedding, they honeymoon in India. When they come back, she is pregnant. Everything changes. What follows is the unravelling of two individuals, separately and together. The woman can't stop drinking, but it is the man who collapses in on himself when they separate, and the woman who grows up, for the sake of their children. This is a story told to children that is not suitable for children. It is raw and truthful and redemptive - with very little sex, a lot of drugs, and rave in place of rock and roll - and despite the awful outcome, it still has a happy ending.
