It was exciting to be the pilot of and experimental spaceship. Being part of the first crew to go to another star system was a dream come true for Jackie. The dream becomes a nightmare when the ship overshoots the destination and then threatens to explode. Jackie and the rest of the crew are forced to use escape pods to land on the nearest planet that is capable of life.
Jackie lands on an island and sets out to see what kind of intelligent life inhabit the island. Not sure how many of her crew made it off safely she is determined to try and find them if possible. She is rescued from the attack of a big wild cat by a giant of a man. Well, giant to her as her people are fairly short. She is able to use her multitool to learn is spoken language. His island is primitive, but he agrees to take her to a town where they can contact people who have technology. They have machines like motorboats instead of sailboats. Jackie hopes they will help her find her crew mates.
Problems arise when they get to town. This island country has a shortage of women and men fight over the right to claim them. Von, her newfound friend who is big by his people's standards too, claims her to keep the peace. He can release her when she gets ready to leave. The problem is by the time the more advanced people arrive Von had fallen in love with her and refuses to release her. Jackie has feelings for Von but wants access to technology. She also feels obligated to try to find her crewmates. Jackie hopes to think of a way she can be with Von and also find her crew. One thing is for sure Von is not going to let her go.
