About the Author

Steven Heller is co-chair, MFA Design: Designer as Author programme, School of Visual Arts, New York. He is the author, editor and co-editor of over 100 books on design and popular culture, including Scripts and Shadow Type (co-written with Louise Fili), New Modernist Type, Comics Sketchbooks, Graphic, Typography Sketchbooks, New Ornamental Type and Handwritten, all published by Thames & Hudson.

Louise Fili is director of Fili Design, a New York-based design studio specializing in vintage typographic treatments. She has received Gold and Silver medals from the Society of Illustrators and New York Art Directors’ Club, the Premio Grafico at the Bologna Book Fair and the 2014 AIGA Medal.
