This is the amazing, action-packed true story (with a little humor sprinkled in) of what a 21-year-old American civilian went through while living and working in Kermanshah, Iran, at an Iranian Army Helicopter Base during the Islamic Revolution in 1978-1979 and how he escaped in 1979.

Industry Reviews

Written as a personal account that feels as though you're sitting across from a friend, listening to their story firsthand. The writing draws you into their experience and as an active and avid global traveler myself, though to no similar or as dangerous a place as during the Islamic Revolution in Iran as an American, I felt the danger, uncertainty, and dare I say excitement the author must have felt often during this period. It was an interesting experience and one I'm glad was shared!

This is a great documentary on one man's journey to Iran before the revolution. It squares well with the stories told to me by Persian friends who left at about that time.

The success of the revolution was a sad point in history. It saddens me that a country of such beautiful people, on their journey to prosperity, could be so easily overcome, in the name of religion, and turned into a hateful spreading cancer. It is a stark reminder of where many of today's hatreds and destruction, at least in the Middle East, come from. My heart goes out to the Lebanese, Syrians, Palestinians, Israelis, Saudis, Yemenites, and others -- who have either hated or have been hated upon -- due to this extreme Islamic evil.

Great read. So much so that you actually feel like you've were there in the midst of the action.

The other thing I enjoyed was how the author explained throughout the book what was occurring in the region and the world in order to provide clarity to what the author experienced.

Finally, I enjoyed how the author avoided placing filler that had minimal connection to the plot in order to add more pages to the book. I was unable to put the book down and finished it in one evening. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I highly recommend this book.
