One thousand years from now, Charlie Outis awakes to discover that he is a brain without a body; his gray matter was preserved through cyrogenics in a century he left behind, and now he must exist in a world that he can barely recognize. Even one thousand years from now, a good head - with or without shoulders - is worth more that a handful of computer chips. Charlie discovers he is in fact a hot commodity and is forcibly installed into a bit of interstellar transportation. Plying the asteroid-belt run, Charlie spends his days lamenting his tale of woe across radio waves. Soon Charlie's cause becomes celebrated and he finds his fate on mankind's sister planet, Mars, trading, he hopes, an old world for a new body.
