A searing memoir of mother-daughter sexual abuse that illuminates the taboo to help survivors and therapists heal the sexual trauma that can destroy lives. Foreword by Dr. Michele Elliott, OBE, founder of Kidscape in the UK, author of 26 books, and knighted by the Queen for her work with children and families.

When Linda Day lost her management job at IBM, she went into therapy to turn off the neon FAILURE sign blinking on her forehead. Stones were removed from her wall of normality, and it tumbled, taking with it her marriage and most of her notions of her self and her sexuality. As she struggled to rebuild her life and decipher her sexual orientation, she ran head-on into the repressed memories of her mother's sexual abuse.

Thus began one woman's tortuous journey through her therapist's disbelief, unexpected encounters with multiple personalities, and a bewildering mix of dysfunctional but informative straight and gay relationships. This psychological detective memoir traces the Linda's path as she pieces together the puzzle of her life to reach a startling conclusion.

Candor, wit and wry humor characterize the compelling narrative -- masterfully told, unsentimental and unflinching.

"Read this book. ... You will be drawn into Linda's story, which will keep you turning the pages - it is insightful and pithy, and it brings you into a hidden world ... Sane Enough is important, not only for survivors who will be comforted that they are not alone, but also for their families, professionals and anyone who cares about children." - From the Foreword by Dr. Michel Elliott, OBE.

Early reviews: a novel, a great read, hard to put down... personal and vivid" --Diana Howie, published playwright

"Your book drew me in from the first sentence. It is a wonderful book, beautifully written and very moving." --Sheri Oz, author of "Overcoming Childhood Sexual Trauma"

"As for you memoir, it is amazing. It is so honest, open, and very easy to read. I got hooked from the start of reading it... I love your writing and admire you for what you share... You are truly amazing." - Abisola Gallagher-Hobson, Director of Counseling & Wellness Services,NJ City University.

Searing, inspiring, courageous, illuminating..." - Dr. Caitilin Stetson, clinical psychologist

"You are a fabulous writer and a woman with an amazing amount of courage. I'm glad that I read your book but have to tell you it was difficult. I cried, got extremely angry, was sad, and confused, but after a day of rolling it around in my head decided that I wanted to let you know that your book is something a lot of people will read. You could have been telling my story (the reason I found it hard to read, but unable to put it down) and I was or maybe still am a cross between you and your sister. Just can't tell you how much I think your book is a wonderful thing. Thank you so much for sharing your story." - Lorri

"This exceptionally well written account of one woman's search for "sanity" in her life, grabbed my heart and mind with the first few sentences. Linda's honesty in putting her life out there for all to read about was uplifting. Few people have the courage to look for the answers she sought much less freely share the journey in the hopes of helping others. "Sane Enough" is a book about the courage to face the demons in one's life and find peace. I highly recommend this book and it is not just for someone who has experienced abuse." -- Robert Carter

Linda Day made her living for 25 years as an award-winning freelance writer. With honors degrees in chemistry (summa cum laude) and art (magna cum laude), she has worked in biomedical research, for IBM as a systems engineer, sales rep and manager, and as a freelance carpenter. She lives in Houston.
Industry Reviews
Foreword Reviews INDIEFAB Book of the Year Award Finalist "A challenging, insightful, and rare work that offers poignant insights into childhood sexual abuse... an unflinching account... Day's work is self-aware, her prose elegant and her familiarity with the nuances of the subject apparent. Some moments will sear into the consciousness - and the tactile nature of Day's scene setting makes such moments all the more devastating. This book constitutes a valuable entry into more open discussions of childhood sexual abuse, and the naked nature of her recollections may inspire others toward similar acts of bravery." -Foreword Reviews, 5 stars "Linda Day tells her story with candor and pulls no punches. Sane Enough is a testament... a memoir that should be required reading." -Linda Sexton, author of Searching for Mercy Street: My Journey Back To My Mother, Anne Sexton "Insightful and pithy, Sane Enough brings you into a hidden world... Important for survivors and anyone who cares about children." -Dr. Michele Elliott, Order of the British Empire, Winston Churchill Fellow "Linda opens our minds and hearts in this beautifully written memoir... emotionally riveting truth." -Roberta Dolan, author of Say It Out Loud: Revealing and Healing the Scars of Sexual Abuse "A wonderful book, beautifully written and very moving." -Sheri Oz, author of Overcoming Childhood Sexual Trauma "Searing, inspiring, courageous, illuminating..." -Dr. Caitilin Stetson, psychologist
