The dark reaches of Riptide are ignited by Eve and Rene, fast friends, both stunning, both desperate to shed their sordid past and claim freedom. In hot pursuit, the icy, sociopathic madam Edmonda LaBeach, intent on recovering all she has lost. Into this whirlpool walks Ray Strand, a war hero who comes to his troubled wife's suicide and his own ensuing life-sentence of guilt.

Hitchhiking into an unknown future, Ray is invited to accompany the fugitive women in their glamorous convertible. He falls hard for Rene. But in this world of shadows, knowing what is real and what is not can be elusive.

The adventure begins, first as a brash, sexy lark, then the hazards of the highway the three are traveling emerge dead ahead. What ensues as Eve, Rene and Ray struggle to cast off personal traumas is a confluence of sex, jealousy, love, deception, sacrifice, violence, murder, and ultimately, no lack of heart and heroism. Tracked by the murderous madam, our trio must also evade two deadly San Francisco detectives while desperately searching out safe ground.

The action takes place in the sun-splashed 40s of the west coast and Hawaii. In the black and the white, the dark and the light, Ray Strand's quest for redemption takes him through the depths and emerges into a jolting, life-altering truth. It might be fatal, or breaking the gloom at the end of the tunnel - it might be hope.
