Sensational new biography - using the discovery of long lost contemporary documents - of the Russian peasant mystic whose malign influence helped lead to the downfall of the Romanovs.

An unprecedented insight into the most enigmatic of men thanks to the use of previously unavailable sources and interviews.

Industry Reviews
Host of the popular Russian television programme, The Enigmas of History, Radzinsky is the author of a number of seminal - and highly accessible - works on Russian revolutionary history. His extensive research on Tsar Nicholas II has led him, inevitably, to spend many years pondering the mythology surrounding Rasputin. Biographies and histories have had few hard facts to draw on, relying on sensationalized accounts and documents of dubious origin. During the 1960s, however, Radzinsky discovered a reference to first-hand testimonies from Rasputin's circle, taken in 1917. But what had happened to them? Radzinsky begins this extraordinary book with a quick canter through his years of searching, which became ever more intensive after the opening up of archives in the early 1990s. A file did eventually come to light (its discovery is as fascinating as its contents) - and the combination of Radzinsky's considerable knowledge of the period with testimonies that have never been published before has resulted in a truly exceptional book. Aided by its 'cast of principal characters', maps and detailed family tree of Tsar Nicholas, this wonderful volume is immensely accessible. And, simultaneously published in the USA and the UK, this book is going to be very big news indeed. (Kirkus UK)
