Purpose & Impact: How Executives are Creating Meaningful Second Careers is aimed at helping senior executives and companies develop tri-sector skills for second and third careers. By 2060, the world will have an additional 2.2 billion 40 to 79 year olds, a large proportion of whom will need or want to work. The concept of retirement is becoming redundant, as executives need, financially, and want, motivationally, to continue to work well into what is considered `retirement age'. This period of time is equivalent to a whole second career. The book, therefore, sets out a topic that is becoming increasingly important and urgent for governments, companies and executives alike. Aimed at senior professionals who are either currently seeking new challenges or are sensing a need for change, this book is the first to provide clear guidance on how to rethink and even relaunch careers that align with wider purpose and societal impact. The book is underpinned by research (including interviews with over 50 senior executives) conducted by the author. These interviews are interspersed throughout the book to provide the reader with real insight into how senior executives (VPs, Investment Managers, CEOs, Heads of Procurement, FDs, etc) have taken existing skills and knowledge, expanded these where appropriate, and found leadership roles that have enabled their own personal growth and development and have had positive impacts on wider society. In addition, helpful tools and guides are used throughout the book to help the reader in their decision-making processes and the different stages of achieving their job search, skills development and career goals.
