"My 11 year old daughter said that this was one of the best books she's ever read (and she reads a lot). She was drawn in by both the mystery and ghost story. The book is suitable for 8-12 year olds. I read it after my daughter did and I also enjoyed it. The book is set on Treasure Island, San Luis Pass, Texas. The story centers around a boy named Alex Glass, his friend Juliann, and the ghost of Cabeza de Vaca, among others. Alex encounters the ghost, puzzles out who he is, and then tries to discover if the ghost has left hidden treasure on the island. Plenty of adventure happens along the way. The book also includes historical information in the back to help the student understand the factual context of the story.
