God Is a Mortician

 A riot of mockery and absurdity

There's no easy way to sum up the plot of GOD IS A MORTICIAN, but readers will find much to enjoy in the excitement and unexpected twists and turns in this story of an earthling, several extraterrestrials, and their adventures in and out of what appears to be heaven. The narrator tells the story to his son Hector, and these interchanges at the beginnings and ends of chapters bring some human perspective to the more imaginative aspects of the unfolding narrative. The story has tension, challenges, sex, religion, politics, and some sly references to contemporary life on planet earth. The book is not for the timid or faint-hearted. Some readers may be reminded of Kurt Vonnegut and others of Hunter Thompson, but one thing is certain: Finn Briscoe is a fearless writer, unafraid to go where his imagination takes him.

I've just read a delightfully bizarre novel-spoof called God is a Mortician, by Finn Briscoe. First off, this Sci-fi odyssey is not only engaging but also well written. The over-the-top plot manages to poke fun at politics, world wide issues, and religion. Yes, religion, but in a way that will make you smile.

Aliens have found a way to suck up mental energy from earth's minions who dwell on the above issues to the extent that this energy is conserved and used by the aliens to propel their ships. In fact, aliens from all over the galaxy can use earth as a pit-stop to refuel their ships by drawing off this crazy energy from the minds of humans.

This Sci-fi-like novel is very different and completely original. If you will accept the author's ideas and are willing to open and stretch your mind, you will be amply rewarded.
