Il fut mon condisciple à l'Ecole Polytechnique, où je l'aperçus pour la premiere fois de ma vie. Nous nous liâmes d'amitie avec assez de promptitude, pousses en ceci par notre commune gentilhommerie, qui n'etait pas dans les titres et les noms, comme il arrivait dejà trop souvent, mais dans les croyances, l'air et le sang.
