Issue 9 was originally one of the runts in the magazine litter, Issue 7 and Issue 8 were the digest size trade paperback as Pacione will introduce them as his version of The Reader's Digest Condensed books. This one has an alternate story which this was the original Issue 9 that is published as the version on Lulu.com was an alternate version as this version will not carry Hot Airs and Strange Odors closing it out.
There was something Robert Essig said that touched a nerve to Pacione as he said, "the reason he was controversial was to get attention." Pacione proved he wasn't doing to get attention when he was engaging Eric Hovind and disproved him. He was doing it just for laughs as the story he wrote here he showed he wasn't immune as he would write horror at his own expense as he fictionalized his shrink visit in Joliet as that was the very same shrink in the story known asThe Ward.
This issue is the size of Collectives In A Forsaken Landscape as Issue 10 was the smaller of the two compared to this one as this was the size of Issue 4.
Issue 4 and Issue 6 were the first of the 182-187 page issues which Pacione thought,Okay I should keep them this size. He had found the original odt that he used on one of his CD-Rs he stored them on as he thought the issue was lost when the computer crashed in 2009 -- as this will also have photos from the era as he has photos illustrating a stigma which are a storyboard for his project that he used this issue as the model how to arrange it. Issue 9 was known to be dark but not as dark as Issue 10 was but it was an issue with no creative nonfiction in it like Issue 4 or Issue 7. Issue 11 was known as the local issue where every writer who was local to appear in the magazine along with Pacione and his pen name both writing stories.
It was known for a reader submission too which he got the idea from reading Issue 10's Apt. #2W by the editor as this story,The Room Mate was one of Pacione's only joke stories but it was very literate that took on traits of alumni Trent from the first and third issue with the humor but Pacione's take was science fiction tinged.
The Room Mate is the one who interviewed Clive Barker. She was torn between Pacione and Barker; they were both up for Stokers. @ The Portage -- Gwen was trying to figure out Ray was laughing about then she thought,Oh no, he talking about that story Pacione passed around on MySpace.com as Ray was laughing very hard at this. He knew who was the story about as it had a Stephen King tinged joke referencing Misery as Michelle Russo was similar to Anne Wilkes if she dressed up like Baby Jane Hudson from, "What ever happened to Baby Jane?"
The aspects which made the legend behind this story even funnier is Pacione was on video laughing at the rejection letters for this one as he was drinking a few cans of soda. Trolls saw this and said he was downing a can of beer. He documented when the story was written in a notebook calendar as he was suspended from Vampirefreaks.com the first time in 2008.
2014 he got into a very public war with the staff of VampireFreaks.com because they refused to honor his copyrights/DMCA take down notice. He noticed one of them covering for a plagiarist who he caught with a story unpublished but just written in that year. The plagiarist he dealt with since just writing The Room Mate and Media Darling which he found the original version compared to the version in Emanations where the editor curbed Pacione's dark realism with including BlogtalkRadio.com and WGN as he has someone from WGN following him on Twitter.com. This issue doesn't give the double bird like EDE (Issue 10) but it's the the one that's a landmark in terms of the size.
