James also has enemies. They include the full military might of a benighted solar system ruled by corporate greed and a desperate fear of what James will do next. At the forefront of their efforts to stop him is Kuo, the ruthless security head, who wants James's head on a pike and will stop at nothing to obtain it.

-While the pacing of the first third of Time Siege drags a bit as characters are repeatedly stymied in their quests, the reappearance of a nemesis-turned-ally -- and his ethical struggle with breaking the Time Laws -- gives the story just the jolt it needs. The text ramps up quickly, and thereafter it hurtles along gleefully, a joyfully breathtaking ride.
