Betty Barnes has been raised by her older sister, Kate, in a small country village, but Betty dreams of the bright lights of Hollywood and of becoming a movie star. Day-dreaming is one way to escape the realities of school life where she is cruelly bullied due to her sister, who is living in sin with a married man and is rumored to have used her healing skills to help local girls. Like her sister Betty has also inherited psychic and healing gifts from her forebears, but she decides that no one—not even her sister—understands her. She runs away to the big city to pursue a glittering acting career, but instead must reinvent herself as Foxy, a stripper in a gentleman's club. As she soon realizes, however, Betty cannot run away from her magic forever.
