An adventure story dealing with environmental issues. Edwin has accidentally travelled back from the year 2400, from a world in which his pet dolphin is dying because the sea has been poisoned. He meets Tim and starts a quest to discover what it is in Tim's time that will cause the future disaster.
Industry Reviews
Ruffled complacency encounters a future crisis when Tim Dinwiddie, fleeing wedding fever at home, meets computer-capped Percy, accidentally projected back 500 years. During their confab Tim senses that Percy is disturbed - it seems that in his time the seas are dying, and with them man's newest allies the dolphins, including Percy's particular pet Beppo. "Tribaxin, Tim, tribaxin" telepaths Percy's voice later, spotting the poison as a plastic just being developed close to Tim's English village; and then a ship sinks in mid-Atlantic with a consignment aboard. Diffident Tim takes it upon himself to alert the authorities, and with Grandfather's help (he used to work at the offending plant) makes it all the way to the Minister of Science and Technology, where Percy puts in a decisive appearance. He also bares tales of the dolphins, specifically a myth of origins in what might be Atlantis. Talk carries the day here, and some of it's pettifoggery about clean shirts and new pants and proper manners. Tim, tucked in by his mother, is no cavalier by American standards but his rescue operation stirs sympathetic as well as scientific waves. (Kirkus Reviews)
