A planetary monitoring station in Eastern Europe is suddenly bombarded with rhythmic bursts of light particles from beyond earth - a pattern so regular and complex that they can only have emanated from a highly evolved intelligence.

As the scientists begin to decode the messages, they are amazed by the information they reveal: secrets of a technology far in advance of our own, suggesting that a benign civilisation wishes to share its knowledge with humankind. Surely, the scientists argue, the signals should be acknowledged and contact established.

But the world's superpowers have other ideas, and suddenly the scientists find themselves at the heart of a global conspiracy - on the run from forces determined to claim the benefits of the alien messages for themselves. And what will be the effect on a world suddenly faced with unimaginable technological breakthrough...?

Author Biography: Professor Bill Napier is an astronomer at the Armagh Observatory in Northern Ireland and an honorary professor at the Institute for Astrobiology of Cardiff University. He is interested in the relationship between life and the Universe and is a leading authority on the celestial hazard issue. He has co-authored three scientific books and about eighty research papers, and has written two previous thrillers.

Industry Reviews
Spellbinding thriller meets science fiction in this riveting third novel from astronomer Bill Napier. The story begins when an underground research station in remote Eastern Europe picks up bursts of energy from beyond Earth. It soon becomes clear that they can only come from an alien intelligence. Once the code is broken, scientists realize that the extraterrestrial race has a technology far beyond anything available to humanity - and appears ready to establish friendly contact. Petty jealousies and mistrust infect the scientists as each fears that one or more of the others will attempt to take credit for this momentous discovery. But such worries become irrelevant as world governments display a strange lack of enthusiasm, and the true magnitude of this extraordinary situation soon becomes clear. This is a gripping tale, and although Napier's deep knowledge of the scientific background is obvious throughout he never allows it to obscure the action. The characters are vivid and the complexities of the plot neatly manipulated. Highly recommended. (Kirkus UK)
