The author is a journalist, radio and television writer, screenwriter, critic and novelist. His work has appeared in "Heavy Metal" magazine and he is the author of many science fiction and fantasy novels, including "Circumpolar", "Sun's End" and "Lovecraft's Book".
Industry Reviews
Sequel to Lupoff's riotously inventive Circumpolar! (1984) featuring a doughnut-shaped Earth, lost continents, alternate history, and more. This time, it's alternate 1942; mysterious signals have been received, apparently emanating from another Earth in an identical orbit but on the other side of the sun! Expeditions are hurriedly organized to go and investigate. One, in a nuclear-powered vessel, is led by Juan and Evita Peron and Oswald Mosley (the British fascist) with the backing of Mussolini and various German fascists who hope to enlist the support of Counter-Earth in conquering the original Earth. The good guys in their magnetically-powered flying wing (technology supplied by the inhabitants of Mu on the other side of the doughnut-Earth) are Albert Einstein and aircraft designer Jack Northrop, plus (female) major-league pitcher "Babe" Didrikson and her (black) catcher Josh Gibson. It turns out that Counter-Earth was accidentally created by the advanced civilization of Khem (they built the pyramids in Egypt and on the Moon before returning to the doughnut-shaped asteroid Ceres) in an effort to curb the irascible inhabitants of Svartalheim. The expected complications ensue when both expeditions arrive on Counter-Earth. Competently wrought, but already slipping into formula, and not half as much fun as Circumpolar! (Kirkus Reviews)
