Based on the classic Swan Lake this is a story of enchantment, love and betrayal. In this version the main character is Odile, the daughter of the sorcerer, Baron von Rothbart, rather than Odette, the princess who is swan by day, maiden by night. Odile studies magic and strives for her father's approval, but slowly comes to the realization that his actions are contemptible. As Prince Siegfried is plotted against by his mother, von Rothbart gives Odette a chance to win freedom for herself and her fellow swan-maidens. Odette and Siegfried meet by the lake, von Rothbart proves his treachery and Odile must make the hardest choice of her life. This has all the right ingredients for grand fantasy, but does require a conscious effort to suspend disbelief. (Kirkus UK)
