The Scarecrow and His Servant is another brilliant book by Philip Pullman. When a scarecrow gets struck by lightning and becomes real he needs a servant to look after him. Jack an orphan is perfect for the job and together they wander the country in search of fortune. Scarecrow is courageous but a little pea brained and it is Jack whose quick thinking gets them out of the scrapes they are caught up in. Whether it is bandits, soldiers or the dangerous Buffaloni family, together the Scarecrow and his servant stand up to them all. A fantastical read perfect for young readers. (Kirkus UK)
