Eyes of the Virgin

The eyes that gaze out from the piece of stained glass are filled with love and grief and wisdom. They are the eyes of the Holy Mother, who now looks after her children - mankind - just as she once looked after her Son. Periodically, those astonishingly beautiful eyes vanish, replaced by coded prophecies, warnings, and guidance for the men and women who possess the glass.
For centuries, the Church has held the Virgin's eyes and used their messages to prevent assassinations, anticipate natural disasters, and work toward world unity and peace. But there are those who would use the prophecies for their own personal enrichment. Their agent, Streicher, strikes with surgical precision, seizing the glass and leaving no clues behind, just dead bodies. But the glass is worthless without the key to the ancient code. That is the next target.
Kate Harrison is ignorant of all this. A talented computer programmer, she lives a quiet life with her husband - quiet, that is, until the terrifying night she receives a panicky plea for help from her sister. Kate arrives too late. Her sister is dead, and Kate quickly becomes the number one suspect - especially when it is discovered that her sister's husband, Domenic, is missing and that Kate's husband has also been bloodily murdered.
By the time the assassins strike against Kate herself, she has former Navy SEAL Matt Etchison as her protector. Apparently a private investigator, Matt is much more than he seems. Hot on the trail of the missing Domenic, Kate and Matt don't realize they are leading the cabal straight to the code key.
With the code in hand, the cabal prepares to take control of the Word of God. But the Eyes of the Virgin are not undefended, and those who have served evil may yet be purified in the gaze of the Holy Mother.
