Gavilan Robie was part Cheyenne, part Basque, part any number of distinguished ancestors, many of whom spoke in his thoughts when he was feeling particularly down. He was puzzled when a major corporation asked him to recover the kidnapped Siv Matthiessen. It wasn't really his kind of thing - since retiring from the Action Rescue Committee, he specialized in recovering stolen art. He spent a fair amount of time pondering his many sins, thinking of all the people he had seen die over the years, not sure if going to Bolivia, Costa Rica, and elsewhere, was bringing him any closer to his prize.
So he constructed a virtual Siv Matthiessen, using his estranged girlfriend's computer, and sought Siv's help in his search for her. That was when he discovered how seductive the not-quite-human Siv was.
