Ry Caulder is a hit man. A hardened killer. Caulder's skill at murder for hire is supreme, his code of ethics is precise, and his reputation is legendary. Known in the underworld as "The Consummate Professional," he is considered the hit man for tough jobs.
But Caulder is burned out and wants to quit the business. He can no longer rationalize what he does for a living. He wants to retire, but the ties that bind are tight. Caulder is hired to do one last job - to hunt down and kill Fredrickson, his mentor, the man who brought him into the business over twenty years ago. Someone has been launching attacks on the mob's drug-processing plants and smuggling operations, and Fredrickson is the suspected ringleader.
A deadly game of cat and mouse plays out between these two before Caulder finally dispatches Fredrickson by blowing his limo sky-high with plastique explosives. There's only one problem - the next day, Fredrickson is still alive.
Caught in the crossfire between the police, the mob, the Colombians, and this vengeful hit man, Caulder must now do battle with both his conscience and his superhuman foe. In the course of the action he will discover the truth behind the mystery of Fredrickson's powers and unlock the door to his own future.
