Unable to risk staying in their village any longer, two children with telepathic powers travel to a refuge called The Sea with the help of a beautiful woman named Ashira
Industry Reviews
Another post-Disaster science fiction world - this one populated by two isolated groups: a primitive, male supremacist community descended from residents of a well-protected missile base and an enlightened autocracy called Morrow which has survived in scientifically engineered comfort. Tia and Rabbit, children in the primitive outpost, are persecuted because of their telepathic powers, actually the result of a genetic experiment conducted among their people by an exploratory expedition from Morrow. So Ashira, who rules as the Elite of Morrow, makes contact with the children in her dreams and determines to rescue them. The children's escape from their home and journey through the ruins of San Francisco is inevitably reminiscent of Christopher's journey to the White Mountains - though Hoover is a less subtle guide to the ironies of time and destruction. But the contrast between the apparent (though perhaps flawed?) utopia of Morrow and the brutal world of the missile-worshipping tribe is original enough to make one anticipate a sequel to this imaginative first novel.
