Danlo has searched the known universe, and the mathematical jungles that surround and underlie it, for his god-like father Mallory the pilot. Now his great enemy plans to destroy everything to make himself a god. Stars explode as the evil Architects work through their own schemes and Danlo has to find his own way to save humanity and himself. This is space opera that plays continually with technologies that are almost magical. As Last Things approach, fantasy threatens constantly to take over, but there is a fundamental seriousness to Zindell's writing which comes close to pretentious but remains humane and moving.
