Bacteriophages (or phages) are ubiquitous in nature and the most abundant biological entities on our planet. It is a natural enemies of bacteria. Phages are obligate intracellular parasites and replicate inside the host either lysogenic or lytic mode after infection using the cellular machinery of a bacterium. On the basis of their anti-bacterial property and unique characteristics, phages are being comprehensively evaluated taxonomically. The accumulating genome sequences data of various phages are being provided an opportunity to researchers to annotate and characterise the various putative gene candidates to understand the molecular mechanisms involve in the lytic and lysogenic states. In the early 1900s, Twort and d'Herelle discovered the phages, and it became an important factor for fighting pathogenic bacteria in disease treatments. Moreover, phage-based vaccination is being evolved as one of the most encouraging preventive approaches. Due to this, its related research got remarkable recognition. However, due to the rapid emergence of bacterial resistance on antibiotics, use of phage (phage therapy) could be a major motive of research. Because the most promising solutions lies in bacteriophages. This volume covers fundamental of bacteriophage, isolation, screening, synthetic phage, phage for diagnostic, directed evolution, host interaction and many. It has also covered phage for treatment of Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Salmonella spp, Staphylococcus aureus and Acinetobacter baumannii. This volume is an excellent and informative text on phage and their use for treatment of bacterial infections. The main aim behind this volume is to highlight a number of aspects of the phage in a way that can help the basic understanding of students, researchers, clinicians, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders to perform their research with great interest.
