There's never been a better time to discover the novels behind the blockbuster Starz original seriesOutlander. Blending rich historical fiction with riveting adventure and a truly epic love story, here are the first four books of Diana Gabaldon'sNew York Times bestselling saga that introduced the world to the brilliant Claire Randall and valiant Highlander Jamie Fraser:

OUTLANDER
DRAGONFLY IN AMBER
VOYAGER
DRUMS OF AUTUMN

Scottish Highlands, 1945. Claire Randall, a former British combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach-an "outlander"-in a Scotland torn by war and raiding clans in the year of Our Lord . . . 1743. Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of a world that threatens her life, and may shatter her heart. Marooned amid danger, passion, and violence, her only chance of safety lies in Jamie Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior. What begins in compulsion becomes urgent need, and Claire finds herself torn between two very different men, in two irreconcilable lives.

After becoming addicted to the first series of outlander I decide I would get the books and read therm while I waited for the 2nd season to hit netflix. I have just started the fourth book and am going to order the next lot today! I love the characters and how it takes you with it. It has been a great escape for me as I recovery from a pulmonary embolism.

This is an historical romance and in my opinion best suited to older female readers. It is very explicit in some scenes. This is not a book I would normally pick up but obviously there is a fan base out there of Diana Gabaldon books as many copies have been sold and it has taken me almost 20 years to have heard of her. After watching series 1 and 2 of "Outlander" I fell in love with the concept of time travel AND I fallen 'in love' with the male character, Jamie Fraser; a combination of bravery and refreshing honesty. (it is about romance afterall) . I needed to know more details about what I had seen.. The boxed set suited this purpose and filled in many gaps. This has led to further reading on the Battle of Cullodin,, which I had not previously heard of, but a very significant battle towards the loss of Scottish indepenence. I would recommend this set to a fan of the Outlander series currently Series1 is being shown on TV. or to someone who likes historical romance.

    Comments about Outlander Boxed Set:

Having seen seasons 1 & 2 of the TV series, I decided to read the books, and was surprised to find that there were so many in the set. I've only just finished the first book, but I'm looking forward to season 3 on TV. They are a good read.

              Comments about Outlander Boxed Set:

These books are well written and compelling. I couldn't put them down. The story flowed and the characters are loveable. Although I was somewhat disappointed with the development of the main characters in the forth book - and some minor inconsistencies in the storyline - I am still enthralled and am looking forward to reading the next book. I've even occasionally found myself thinking in a Scottish accent!

                      Diana Gabaldon

Diana Gabaldon is the author of the award-winning, #1 NYT-Bestselling Outlander novels, described by Salon magazine as the smartest historical sci-fi adventure-romance story ever written by a science Ph.D. with a background in scripting Scrooge McDuck comics.

The adventure began in 1991 with the classic Outlander (historical fiction with a Moebius twist), has continued through seven more New York Times-bestselling novels, Dragonfly in Amber, Voyager, Drums of Autumn, The Fiery Cross, A Breath of Snow and Ashes , An Echo in the Bone, and Written in My Own Heart's Blood, with more than twenty-six million copies in print worldwide.

The series is published in 26 countries and 23 languages, and includes a nonfiction (well, relatively) companion volume, The Outlandish Companion, which provides details on the settings, background, characters, research, and writing of the first novels in the series. Gabaldon (it's pronounced GAA-bull-dohn, rhymes with stone) has also written several books in a sub-series featuring Lord John Grey (a major minor character from the main series):  Lord John and The Private Matter, Lord John and the Hand of Devils, Lord John And The Brotherhood Of The Blade, and The Scottish Prisoner.

Returning to her comic-book roots, she has also written a graphic novel titled The Exile (set within the Outlander universe and featuring the main characters from Outlander), but told from the viewpoint of Jamie Fraser and his godfather, Murtagh. The graphic novel is illustrated by Hoang Nguyen, and published by Del-Rey.

The eighth and most recent major novel in the  Outlander series, Written in My Own Heart's Blood, made its debut as number one on the New York Times bestseller list.

Diana's current writing projects include the ninth major novel in the Outlander series, as yet untitled, and a second volume of The Outlandish Companion. She is also serving as a co-producer and advisor for the Outlander TV series produced by the Starz network and Tall Ship Productions, which is based on her novels.

Diana and her husband, Douglas Watkins, have three adult children and live mostly in Scottsdale, Arizona.
