What happens when a promising future collides with bipolar disorder?
Malcolm Rivers seemed to have everything going for him. A former Air Force officer, devoted father, and ambitious student pursuing an MBA, he appeared to be building a life defined by discipline, purpose, and achievement.
Then everything fell apart.
In the grip of psychosis, Malcolm made a decision that would alter the course of his life forever. What followed was a journey through federal courtrooms, prison cells, isolation, heartbreak, and the painful realities of severe mental illness.
But On Higher Learning is more than a story about incarceration.
It is a deeply personal account of psychological collapse, accountability, survival, and redemption. Through confinement, solitude, and self-examination, Malcolm confronts the disorder that reshaped his life and begins the difficult work of rebuilding himself from the inside out.
Raw, honest, and thought-provoking, this psychological memoir explores the intersection of mental illness, military culture, personal responsibility, faith, and resilience.
For readers interested in mental health, recovery, incarceration, and stories of transformation, On Higher Learning offers a powerful reminder that even after profound failure, growth remains possible.
A memoir about losing everything and discovering what truly matters.
