In 1847, sixteen-year-old Sabra, facing a forced marriage, enlists the help of Jacob Bates, an old mountain man, to take her to the mountains of the American west, where she hopes to raise good horses while hiding from her wealthy but cruel father.  But danger lies within the wilds of the mountains too, and when Sabra finds herself alone, her life takes many turns, eventually forcing her from her mountain home. Fighting for her freedom and the life of her child, she eventually finds her way back to the beauty of her beloved mountains, the horses she loves, and the one man who has her heart.

Industry Reviews

Five stars - I love historical romance & this book was the best! It was a very believable story line & references to historical events & timelines we're well researched & accurate. It's great to read a book written by someone you know. I can't wait for Johny Weber's next book! -advance reader review

Five stars -This book is seriously so engaging (I literally couldn't put it down), it has the right amount of suspense, anticipation, and the perfect amount of sensual writing and best of all its about a rugged, western young women who is so determined to live her best life despite many struggles! Best of all its written by a cowgirl, grandma, rancher, trail rider from South Dakota - Johny Weber !!! - Justine K., Advance Reader Review

Five stars - Anyone that loves strong women, historical fiction a good romance, the adventure of living in another time will find this a great read. I hope the author has another book in the works. - Wendy, Advance Reader Review

Five stars - Johny Weber is the best new author I have read this year. This is a historical fiction novel, which is a genre I love. I have lived in the West all of my life, starting on the West Coast then moving to landlocked states near the Rocky Mountains. Much of where Johny writes about, I have either lived or visited. When one of the characters goes to the California Gold Rush, it is like reliving 4th-grade state history and envisioning the area I call home. Most of this story takes place in Colorado, which I have visited many times. Being able to "see" where the story takes place makes it even more interesting. I highly recommend. - DNB, Advance Reader Review
