Miriam Margolyes is a beloved British-Australian celebrity who can seemingly do it all. She is an actress, a comedian, a voiceover artist, and an author. She was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2002 for her services to drama, and she has won a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

In 2021, she published This Much Is True, an eye-opening autobiography that delves into the hilarious, the scandalous, and the outrageous. Meet Miriam Margolyes

Miriam Margolyes was born in Oxford, England in 1941. She started acting in her 20s, and represented her college on University Challenge, a university quiz programme (and famously where Miriam was one of the first people to ever drop an ‘f bomb’ on television.

In her 30s, Miriam continued to build her career, lending her voice to various television series, and appearing in television, radio, and films such as the famous Blackadder series.

Her name was soon popping up everywhere, including the Martin Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence, for which she won her BAFTA.

In 2002, she landed the role of Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter series, and in 2006, she starred in the musical production Wicked. Other notable credits include her work on the Call The Midwife television show, and her one-woman show, Dickens’ Women.

Importantly, Miriam became an Australian citizen in 2013. She now spends her time between homes in England, Australia, and Italy with her Australian partner Heather Sutherland.
