Marvellous

She has won every argument she has ever entered. This is the one she cannot win.

Marvellous Okafor is brilliant, fearless, and allergic to easy answers. She's been, in her mid-twenties, sitting in a therapist's office every Tuesday for eleven consecutive months - and has yet to say the one true thing that would explain why she is there.

She built her reputation on being unbeatable. Captain of the debate team. The sharpest mind in every room she ever walked into. A future lawyer who has never once lost an argument she meant to win. But somewhere in her first year of university, she met the one person she could never out-argue, out-manoeuvre, or out-think - and what started between them became the secret she has spent every year since trying to outrun.

She has loved since then. She has been loved. She got engaged, and then she could not go through with it. She built a life with a woman who saw her more clearly than anyone, and still could not give her everything. She has built a brilliant life out of arguing her way past everything that should have stopped her - and there is one thing, from one year, that she has never been able to argue her way out of. Four and half years later, it is still waiting for her to come back and finish it.

Compulsively readable and emotionally fearless, Marvellous is a novel about the cost of keeping your own secrets - and what it takes to finally stop.
