IRE In World War Two

Ireland's role in the Second World War has long been overshadowed by the narrative of neutrality. Yet behind the public policy of "The Emergency" lay a far more complex and consequential story.

This compelling historical work explores the hidden realities of Ireland's wartime involvement and its quiet but significant support for the Allied cause. From intelligence sharing and weather reporting to strategic cooperation and military assistance, the book reveals how Irish actions influenced the wider course of the war while thousands of Irish men and women served across Allied forces.

Drawing upon declassified Irish and British archives, primary documents, and years of dedicated research, the contributors present a deeply researched account of diplomacy, sacrifice, secrecy, and survival during one of the most turbulent periods in modern history.

Featuring the work of Eddie Lough, John Crotty, Jim O'Neill, Donard de Cogan, Major General (Retired) Adrian " Murchº, Stephen Kelly, and others, this landmark volume challenges long-held assumptions surrounding Irish neutrality and restores recognition to those whose contributions remained largely unacknowledged for decades.

Rich in historical insight and grounded in documentary evidence, this is essential reading for anyone interested in Irish history, Anglo-Irish relations, military history, and the Second World War.
