Stephen King's work is simple at its best; the early pages of Insomnia are as finely terrifying as anything he has written, with his widower hero unable to sleep and starting to see improbable things from the corners of his eyes. What is important in King is always the people though, and here we have perhaps the most touching of the romances in his work, one between two old people on whom a burden of knowledge and clear sight has been placed.
