Imag-hen-ation is a beautifully illustrated story book with a very important life lesson: It shows how using your imagination can provide new ideas, and help with solving problems, planning ahead and telling stories. Tilly the hen is bored one day so she sits down to think about things. She is learning how to imagine. The older hens have told her that you can use your imagination to make pictures in your mind, but it is a waste of time. At first, Tilly imagines simple things that are real, such as a small pile of hen food. Then she imagines things that are not real, such as very big mountains of hen food. The more she does this, the easier it gets.

Once Tilly's work is done at the end of each day, she sits and imagines things. She starts to imagine fun things, silly things, strange things, exciting things. even magical things. She visits all sorts of wonderful places just by using her mind. The other hens continue to tell her that she is wasting her time.

One day there is rain and the ground is wet. Tilly and the other hens do not like sitting in puddles, but the other hens say there is nothing they can do about it. They have to wait until the water dries as this is how they have always done it. Tilly disagrees. She starts imagining ways to solve this problem and gets a great idea. She collects bits of straw and feathers lying around the farm, then she builds a warm cushion to sit on. Now her imagination is helping her solve problems.

Tilly also uses her imagination to plan for the future and to tell wonderful stories to the chicks, who love the creative tales she tells. Eventually the older hens see what is happening and ask Tilly to teach them how to imagine, which she does. Tilly tells them, "When you use your imagination, anything is possible!"

Imag-hen-ation is part of the exciting Farm-tastic series. This is a set of 10 story books for children, with farm animal characters. Word play is used to bring an additional element of fun to the books. Each story highlights a valuable lesson, such as the importance of hope, that we all have a purpose, and the power of an imagination.
