Daisy Gumm Majesty, Pasadena's most charming (and entirely fake) spiritualist-medium, has pulled off plenty of elaborate deceptions-but convincing anyone that she can teach a cooking class might be her biggest con yet.

When a well-meaning Salvation Army captain asks Daisy to teach German immigrant women the fine art of American cookery, Daisy, who is barely on speaking terms with her own kitchen, is ready to laugh him right out the door. But before she can refuse, her sense of duty (and mild curiosity) gets the better of her.

Armed with a cookbook, an apron, and a healthy dose of skepticism, Daisy steps into the classroom-only for one of her students to mysteriously vanish. Turns out, the lesson this woman needs most has nothing to do with pie crusts and everything to do with dodging an anarchist scheme simmering beneath Pasadena's polished surface.
