-1921, Pasadena, California-

As Pasadena's most sought-after spiritualist-medium (for clients with more money than sense), Daisy Gumm Majesty is used to unusual requests. But even she balks when a notorious speakeasy owner demands a s©ance to contact his dearly departed-and equally deadly-godfather. Daisy would never set foot in such an establishment.... Except the request comes through her wealthiest client, Mrs. Kincaid, who just so happens to be desperate to save her wayward daughter from the gangster's clutches.

With no polite way to refuse (and a great many reasons to be very, very worried), Daisy finds herself summoning spirits in the back room of a bootlegger's den-only for the whole thing to go belly-up when the joint is raided by none other than her least favorite detective, Sam Rotondo.

Now, Daisy's got trouble on all fronts. She's been arrested (which, frankly, is bad for business), Sam insists she spy on the gangsters in exchange for her freedom, and she's still got to figure out a way to rescue Mrs. Kincaid's daughter-all while keeping her own hide intact.
