Trusting God: Surrendering to Divine Providence

In Hermit, Jerry Alessi chronicles a life that defies convention and embraces complete abandonment into the darkness led by God.

Beginning with the familiar rhythms of education, marriage and corporate life, Jerry's story pivots into a decade-long discernment of the priesthood and religious orders, including three years in a major seminary, immersed in philosophy, theology, and rigorous spiritual direction and human formation. But it is in the solitude of four years off the grid that Jerry truly and radically confronts the essence of being. His days are spent in prayer, writing, and meditation. Without money, food, or shelter of his own, he is assisted only by the generosity of a few close friends and two devout priests through and by the grace of God.

Tracing a path carved by vocation, surrender, and radical self-discovery, Hermit is more than just a memoir-it is a revelation of human nature, vulnerability, and the divine. With piercing insight and raw honesty and authenticity, Jerry invites readers into a world few have seen, offering a rare lens into the soul's journey toward objective truth, self-awareness, and divine union.
