This up-to-date overview and analysis of the current economic situation in Africa describes the international and domestic political and social developments that have contributed to the present state of affairs. Leading experts in the field present a scholarly, accessible overview of the topic. The contributors see few causes for optimism for Africa's development unless some significant changes occur in the way in which Western aid is provided and utilized.
