Welcome to Guitar for Beginners. This book explains in a comprehensive yet simple way, the fundamentals of how to play guitar for beginners. With over 150 photographic examples, illustrations and purpose made diagrams, the book also includes 42 downloadable mp3 tracks. Some subjects are important for a beginner guitarist to understand sooner rather than later, so these are covered in detail, such as techniques for left and right hand, using a plectrum, alternate picking, basic music theory, basic scale and chord construction, fretboard layout and how to navigate it, chord changes, strumming, and more.
- Guitar Melodies
Play and learn guitar with completely original musical pieces, making the process practical and enjoyable. These come in various styles like Pop, Blues, Jazz, Country and Rock (to hear some samples of the music, please click the link in the eBook preview just after the contents). Each musical piece includes an audio demonstration and a backing track for you to play over. The commonly used system for reading music for guitar, known as tablature, is clearly explained and used throughout. As tablature does not indicate rhythm however, rhythm numbers have been added underneath guitar tablatures to assist and get you straight into playing music.
- Playing Chords
Changing between chords and strumming are approached separately at first so you can develop coordination in each hand. They are then brought together, starting with easy exercises, getting gradually more advanced until there is a rhythm guitar musical piece to play.
- Music Theory
The major scale, minor scale, pentatonic scales and basic chord construction are explained in terms of the fretboard and are reinforced by being used in the musical pieces, to put the theory into context.
- Reading Rhythm
Musical notation almost always features above guitar tablature and this book is no exception. For this reason an entire chapter is dedicated to reading rhythm from notation. This will give you a fuller understanding of how to use it alongside tablature.
- Further Techniques
Further guitar techniques are also explored including power chords, movable barre chords, palm muting, basic lead guitar techniques and improvising. All include musical pieces.
- What Else?
Each chapter ends with a set of questions to revise your knowledge. All answers are at the back of the book, along with advice on how to practice guitar and a handy chart for all major scales and their note names.

Industry Reviews
"We loved the book. The information was well paced and concise enough not to overwhelm. Any beginner would definitely benefit from having this book, and it's a great reminder for those who might have forgotten details or are looking for them." Nimal De Silva, The Music Garage (Singapore)
"I think this book is great. It covers all the stuff I teach, in a really clear but detailed way. I always find that different people take different amounts of theory to others, but this would be a great book to keep referring back to during lessons and song learning. It's pretty much exactly how I would make a guitar tutor book." Kieren Wade, Guitar tutor & Performer (UK)
"Covers a wide range topics essential for all guitarists. Over 100 pages with plenty of information and solid advice that a player can dip into as needed. Evans does not gloss over the often neglected area of reading notation for rhythm. There are many examples to practice (melodies and rhythm patterns) with the backing tracks. A very useful tool to help you progress with your guitar playing." Hedley Timbs BA(Mus), Grad.Dip. Teaching (New Zealand)
"Through reading and learning from this book, players can discover a deep, extensive and in-depth approach to the technique, theory and everything else related to being a good beginner guitarist. Would recommend this for anyone who is looking to get a really solid grip on how to play the guitar, and also to tutors who are looking at ways to improve their own tutoring abilities." Logan Ellis, Mgr. Spiderhands Productions Ltd (New Zealand)
"An ideal companion to support the beginner on their new found musical journey. Highly recommended." Liam Cain, BMus (hons) Professional Guitarist (UK)
"Had a look at the book and all I can say is....awesome. To me, it is well laid out, easy to look at and there is the supplemental material to top it off. The theory may get tedious for some...its hard to not teach theory but most people seem to have an aversion to it.....the idea of discipline I think." Gernot Schlegel - Professional Guitarist & Teacher (Canada)
"Plenty of detail that goes into posture, hand position, thumb position, etc. The notation and strumming is really good here because it builds up in stages. In a real life lesson, you can introduce it in this way piece by piece and not overwhelm the student." Michael Hanna, Grade 8 RS.Guitar - Larne Guitar School (Ireland)
