Fannie Schaffer waits seven long years for her beloved Jacob Wildasin to return from the California Gold Rush. His success out west combined with their enduring love establishes a legacy rooted in the farmlands of Manheim Township. In the mid-1960's the state seizes the land Jacob purchased using eminent domain to build a park, and his descendants must confront the loss of their precious heritage.
Sixty years later, a 5th generation Wildasin, Dana, feels compelled to preserve Jacob and Fannie's legacy along with their PA Dutch culture and traditions. After publishing her historical novel, which showcases her ancestors' lives, she continues her quest to dig deeper to understand the events that caused her family sorrow and distress. Her research uncovers a surprising discovery. By diving into an obscured past, Dana attains peace in the present and finds personal closure that she never thought possible.

Family is everything...
"This is a beautiful story of love, family, perseverance & determination. The historical framework makes for a story that almost appears completely true if you didn't already know it was fiction. The descriptions of food, church & farm life are spot on. Reading Golden Roots makes me want to know more of my family history. Donna has brought our family to life in ways I never knew." _Kindle Customer

Loved how Overly captured the Pennsylvania Dutch culture in such a personal way!
This is Donna Overly's best book yet! I could not help being immersed in the love story between Fannie and Jacob. It was easy to keep turning the pages and waiting -waiting -waiting with Fannie for Jacob to return. The author does a beautiful job capturing the values and practices over the generations. I especially liked the third part where it comes full circle for Dana. I recommend this read!
