How in the world did we get to where we are today? Gargatholil's new book, Fresh Garbage, provides an astrological answer to this question.

In the late 1960s, the band Spirit released a song, Fresh Garbage. This fresh garbage was psychological content that wasn't fully processed. During the Uranus-Pluto conjunction of the 1960s, a tremendous amount of transformational energy was released. That energy powered several important social movements. While many living in that era were swept up by this energy, a great many more resisted it. When the transformative power of Uranus-Pluto was rejected, it became unprocessed psychic fresh garbage. That fresh garbage manifested in the collective consciousness in the form of reactionary attitudes and movements.

Inspired by Richard Tarnas' Cosmos and Psyche, Fresh Garbage explores the astrology and history of six movements that can be identified with the energy of the Uranus-Pluto conjunction: the Civil Rights Movement, the Free Speech Movement, the Vietnam War and the Anti-war Movement, the Countercultural Revolution, the Sexual Revolution/New Feminism, and the Chinese Cultural Revolution. It then follows each movement through the period marked by subsequent Uranus-Pluto contacts: the semi-sextile of the late 1970s, the semi-square of the late 1980s, the sextile of the 1990s, the square of the 2010s, and the trine of the mid and late 2020s.

There is plenty of astrology here (70 event and natal horoscopes). There is also deep historical and psychological analysis to explain both the development of the six transformative movements discussed in the book and the opposition that arose to those movements. This is a must-read for devotees of mundane astrology or transpersonal and evolutionary astrology, or anyone craving a psychologically fulfilling explanation of how in the world we got to where we are today.
