Dead Jockeys Don't Win Races

In the high-stakes world of Australian horse racing, the Melbourne Cup isn't just a race - it's everything.

When star jockey Alan de Silva is found dead in a suspicious hit-and-run, the glittering facade of racing's biggest event shatters. All eyes turn to casino magnate Albert Maressmo, a man with everything to lose. But the question haunting former jockey turned detective Frank Dennis isn't just who killed de Silva- it's why would Maressmo eliminate his own rider on the eve of the race that could cement his legacy?

As the investigation gallops forward, Dennis plunges back into the cutthroat world he left behind. Beneath the designer suits and champagne flutes, he uncovers a web of jealousy, betrayal, and dangerous ambition. With the Cup approaching and pressure mounting from all sides, Dennis knows the killer will strike again.

In a heart-stopping climax set against the thundering hooves of the Melbourne Cup, two jockeys battle for more than just victory. And as they race toward the finish line, a shocking revelation threatens to expose not just a killer, but the dark heart of the sport itself.

Perfect for readers who loved Dick Francis and fans of atmospheric mysteries where glamour meets danger. First Tuesday delivers a pulse-pounding journey through Australia's most prestigious sporting event, where everyone has a secret - and winning might be the deadliest game of all.

Industry Reviews

'Haven’t read any horse racing novels as good since “Seabiscuit” and Dick Francis novels. Didn’t slow once started, built slow but sure. Likable characters and edited well.'

'I'm not going to give anything away here. I particularly enjoyed the book because I am Australian and this is set in my birth place of Victoria, so it was nice to be able to connect with it. Most books are set in the US, so this was a treat for me. I am not a gambler or race follower, so the topic itself did not appeal to me, but I really enjoyed the book. It was a good read and what more can you ask of a book?'
