Cars propelled with magnetism. Hologram images of past and present movie stars projected into the room for you to dance with and talk to.

Waterless showers. All part of life in Femeron by the end of the century. This humorous scifi satire is a tale that takes the Battle of the Sexes to new heights. We are in the year 2090, the United States long ago allowed California and the other western states to secede from the Union. Inside the re-formed United States, now known as Femeron, only women may be elected to office.

Men are bred in limited numbers and kept in Playgroups or in high security prisons. But the once successful Femeron cloning program has run into trouble and an increasing rate of failures has reached crisis proportions. One genetic scientist has made the controversial proposal to reintroduce male sperm back into the breeding process. In order to obtain the votes needed to have this approved and implemented, she needs to present males before the Femeron Summit Council that can convince their leaders that males have evolved out of their sociopathic predisposition towards violence.

Who will she bring? A journey to a maximum-security prison might be her next step...

5.0 out of 5 stars A witty insight into a female dominated world.

Let me start out in saying that I thoroughly enjoyed reading Femeron! A couple of times I lost track of time, reading late into the night, because I simply couldn't stop. I had to see what was going to happen next. I love all of the future concepts in Femeron. In particular, the way that they shower with no water, but instead, they use sound waves. Very cool!!

Shapiro takes us on journey to show female leaders, the dire need for the male specimen in a way that is both comical as well as real. His ability to show both the female and male perspectives is not an easy task! Not many can go into the minds of both females and males, and come out to be able to tell the tale, but Shapiro certainly did!

It took me a week to read Femeron between my chores but the last 3 chapters got me hooked and I made my husband wait for dinner until I finished. I think this is a great point of view from a man, and sharing how the world would be different if women ruled. We see throughout history men cheating and fighting to reach power and the wars generation after generation. Femeron is a satire but it gives us a different perspective and makes us think what if women were in positions of power around the world? How would things be better? What things would be worse?
