The field of evolutionary developmental biology (Evo-Devo) has been profoundly shaped by a handful of classical model organisms — such as Drosophila melanogaster, Caenorhabditis elegans, zebrafish, mouse, and Arabidopsis — which have provided fundamental insights into the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying development.
