In the far reaches of the Roman Empire, where the roads of Britannia stretch toward the northern frontier and merchant caravans cross the burning deserts of the east, the lives of one family are about to change forever.

Taran, son of the innkeepers of Caerwyn, has always dreamed of becoming more than a simple tavern keeper. Fascinated by trade, travel, and the wealth that flows between distant nations, he leaves Roman Britain behind to journey across the empire with a company of merchants. His travels take him through the Greek islands and into the ancient Nabatean kingdom, where towering red cliffs, desert caravans, and dangerous trade routes open his eyes to a world far larger than the hills of his homeland.

But the desert is as deadly as it is beautiful.

Caught between ruthless bandits, violent sandstorms, and the harsh realities of survival far from home, Taran finds himself dependent on the people of the caravan he travels with. Among them is Samira, a capable and fiercely intelligent Nabatean woman whose strength challenges everything Taran believes about the world and about himself. As danger closes in around them, friendship slowly grows into something deeper, forcing Taran to choose between the familiar life waiting for him in Britannia and an uncertain future on the far side of the empire.

Back in Caerwyn, life continues beneath the great stone archway of the family caupona. Taran's younger sister Maired struggles against the expectations placed upon her as she longs for freedom and independence in a world that offers little of either to young women. Her choices eventually set off a chain of events that threatens the fragile peace of the household and brings the family into conflict with the Roman military presence stationed nearby.

Meanwhile, old wounds continue to haunt the family. Cador, a towering Briton warrior with a troubled past, returns to Caerwyn carrying the weight of loss, exile, and regret. As the family gathers once more beneath the familiar roof of the inn, they must navigate grief, cultural conflict, loyalty, and the growing influence of Rome over every part of their lives.

From the bustling trade cities of Petra and Gaza to the windswept hills of Roman Britain, Escape is a sweeping historical adventure filled with danger, faith, family, and survival. Rich in historical detail and grounded in the realities of life inside the Roman Empire, the novel explores what it means to search for freedom in a world shaped by power, slavery, war, and tradition.

As traders cross deserts, legionaries patrol the frontier, and families struggle to protect those they love, every character is forced to confront the same question: what does it truly mean to escape?

Perfect for readers of immersive historical fiction, Escape combines vivid settings, emotional family drama, believable romance, and cinematic action in a story that spans continents and cultures during the height of the Roman Empire.

Escape is Book III of The Caerwyn Chronicles, a sweeping Christian historical fiction series set in Roman Britain and beyond.
