EPOXY BASICS, Working with Epoxy Cleanly & Efficiently, in its revised second edition gives a concise overview of methods used by the author for Mixing, Gluing, Filleting, Glassing, Coating, Peel Ply, tips for Fill coating, Gloss coating, Faring, Glassing edges & corners, Selective Filling, Coating small parts, Surface preparation, Tools, Safety, and Troubleshooting. Large color photos accompany the text. Russell Brown is well known for his precise work with epoxy and he brings his decades of experience to these pages with the same precision. The book is soft cover to keep this important 50 page reference book affordable while the images are printed at the best quality available.

The author, Russell Brown, was born in California and cruised on a trimaran as a kid, with his family in the early 1970's until they settled in VA. He has been building his own boats since his teens when he built a 30ft proa and sailed to the Caribbean. He has built several large boats since then, as well as nesting dinghies and nesting kayaks. For years he specialized in making custom composite boat parts, including International 14 racing foils and parts for several of the US America's Cup boats. Even though Russell has mastered the art of working with epoxy, he has more often than not, declined to be a public speaker on the subject. He began to write about it in recent years, since he and his wife, Ashlyn, began their boat kit business, Port Townsend Watercraft, featuring the PT 11 nesting dinghy designed by Russell as his ideal dinghy and sold as a kit. Off Center Harbor featured Russell's methods with epoxy to compliment Epoxy Basics. Other books by Russell include Scarfing Basics and in the works are several new titles related to wood/epoxy and carbon composite construction.

Utterly Useful

This book has a particular focus on using epoxy for light boat building, but don't let that stop you from getting it. I will probably never build a boat. None of my friends are boats. I never met Boaty McBoatface. But when it comes to working with epoxy, this guy really nails it.

I use various sorts of epoxy for all sorts of things, and I mostly stumble my way along OK. But this book has helped quite a lot already, and I expect to refer to it over and over again in the future. Not everything was new to me, but most of it was. And it doesn't matter if the techniques are presented in a boat-centric way; all the wisdom here is easily applicable to a multitude of projects. I wish I'd bought it sooner.

This is not a large book but it leaves out all the fluff you find in other books like a chapter on tools, a chapter on safety, a chapter on materials, etc. It cuts to the chase and is very informative. this guy really knows how to handle West System epoxy.

A must own for boatbuilders who use epoxy. Seriously.

A really excellent book on epoxy technique. Don't let the "basics" part fool you. After working with epoxy in boat building for years, almost every one of the techniques in this book has improved my skills, and I'm very happy to own it and have read it more than once.
